Conservation Projects and Events:

Arts School Upgrade (see pictures below): Upgrade work on the old Girls' High/Arts School building has started with Fletcher Construction overseeing the project. The upgrade work will include earthquake strengthening; re-wiring and installing air conditioning units. Part of the work includes lifting the slate on the roof installing plywood and steel and then re-slating. The slate work is being expertly carried out by Jimmy and his team from James Herdman Roofing Ltd. The scaffold has been supplied by Daveron Scaffolding Ltd. The corridors, toilets and kitchen areas will also be upgraded. This work has also included the earthquake strengthening of Annies Winebar and Restaurant. Annies was closed for the month of June but is now re-opened again for buisness.

Chemistry Upgrade: Earthquake strengthening and common area upgrade work is programmed to start on the Chemistry building next year. The engineers have started making preliminary investigations to evaluate the extent of the work required.

Chemistry Painting: In the meantime the north face of the Chemistry building is having a facelift. Painting commenced at the beginning of June and was finished a couple of weeks later after a spell of good weather. At the same time the cast iron guttering on the north face of this building has been removed, repaired and will be reinstated during next week (21 July).

Helen Holmes Board Room: Upgrade work has been completed in the Helen Holmes Board Room. This work has removed most of the intrusive elements and returned the woodwork and other surfaces as close to the original products as possible. The arrival of the new board room table created a stir on Worcester Boulevard as it was lifted by crane through a window in the Clock Tower.

Great Hall Conservation Plan: The fist part of this conservation plan to be done will be an upgrade to the lighting. Advice as been sort from a lighting expert and serveral light trials have been carried out.
