TREAT FOR LOVERS OF FINE ART – FINE ART EXPO 2006

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September, 10am – 5pm
Auction: Monday 11th September at 6pm

The Great Hall at The Arts Centre

Christchurch lovers of fine art are in for a treat when this year’s Fine Art Expo comes to town early next month.

Building on the success of the past two years’ events and organised by Fine Art Society NZ Ltd in association with The Arts Centre of Christchurch Trust, this year’s expo features works by some of New Zealand’s leading historical and contemporary artists including Charles Blomfield, C F Goldie, Frances Hodgkins, J C Hoyte, Margaret Stoddart, Sydney Thompson, Petrus van der Velden, Bill Hammond, Ralph Hotere, Doris Lusk, Trevor Moffitt, and Toss Woollaston.

Also featuring a selection of 19th and 20th century English and European works, the expo’s oldest European work is a 16th century etching by Jacques Callot.

Other highlights include Kiwis at War, a display of works featuring the Boer War and the First and Second World Wars, plus The Body in Art, over thirty works depicting the human form.

Gathering together a collection of this range and quality has been a major undertaking for Fine Art Society director Grant Bezett: “There has never been more interest in fine art and many people are looking to fine art as a form of investment. This is a unique opportunity to view a wide selection of top quality art under one roof.”

An added feature of this year’s event will be an auction of some 80 works to be held on Monday 11th. Displayed on The Great Hall’s stage for the duration of the expo, most entries are from an art dealer’s estate and will be sold unreserved, with all commission going to The Great Hall Conservation Project Fund.

All paintings in the Fine Art Expo are for sale.
