The Friday Lunchtime Concert Series began in 1989 and has played a significant role in establishing The Arts Centre as a key venue for arts and entertainment in Christchurch. The aim of the series is to offer the general public an opportunity to sample a variety of musical styles, performed by world class musicians at a minimal cost. It also offers musicians an opportunity to perform programmes of their own choosing in a supportive environment.

The Press Friday Lunchtime Concert Series will begin again in March 2008 with one concert per week from March to October, offering lunchtime audiences a vibrant and engaging total experience in the beautiful and historic setting of the Great Hall.
