Te Puna Toi/Film Archive

Te Puna Toi was established in 2001 by the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at the University of Canterbury to provide a New Zealand-centred platform for performance research. Te Puna Toi organises conferences, symposia and performances that encourage local and international artists to come together to explore, devise, produce, discuss, write about and create experiments in the production of avant-garde theatre, performance and film.

Te Puna Toi is developing archival resources in collaboration with its primary partners, the New Zealand Film Archive (Wellington) and the Centre for Performance Research (Aberystwyth, Wales). Te Puna Toi is the Christchurch host for the New Zealand Film Archive¹s public viewing programme, Medianet, a computer-based digital video resource, through which visitors can search and view videos at full screen, and at full length, from a hand-picked selection including commercials, music videos, documentaries, drama and animation.

Te Puna Toi is located at the Rolleston Avenue end of the Old LIbrary building (SOFA gallery).

Open daily, except Sundays, 10am-5pm.
