Quality of Work

All potential exhibitors must forward a photo or example of each type (not each piece) of work that will be exhibited before they are offered a space. It is helpful to include information on the theme, technique, materials, and the approximate number of pieces to be exhibited.

Insurance

Exhibitors are to arrange their own insurance for all pieces they are exhibiting.

Publicity, Outside Sandwich Boards & Posters

The Arts Centre can help publicise exhibitions via the display of posters and flyers. If exhibitors wish to produce their own posters Arts Centre Visitor Services must first proofread the posters before they are printed. Suitable poster sizes are A4 or A3 portrait posters. It is recommended that six posters be provided for the Arts Centre Visitor Services staff to place in the notice boards around the Arts Centre. An additional poster should be kept to hang in the Gallery entrance for the duration of the exhibition.

Sandwich boards are not allowed at the Arts Centre. If exhibitors complete the Arts Centre “Event Listing Form” the exhibition details will be included in The Arts Centre’s database. Please read the form for more detailed information.

It is strongly recommended that exhibitors also do their own publicity. This may include, but is not limited to, placing posters and flyers in public places like the libraries and community notice boards.

Openings

Exhibitors are welcome to hold an opening evening and supply their own food and alcohol. This is the exhibitors’ responsibility to arrange, however Arts Centre Visitor Services should be notified of the time and date of the opening. If alcohol is provided free of charge to guests a liquor licence is not required. However if alcohol is sold a special licence is required. The licence may be obtained from the Christchurch City Council and a copy must be displayed on the evening at the Gallery, and a copy given to Arts Centre Visitor Services prior to the event. Please note the Council may take some time in processing the application so advance planning is required.

Exhibitions Involving Electricity

All electrical pieces for sale must have a current certificate of electrical safety from a registered electrician. Overloading and blowing of fuses may result in additional charges so Arts Centre Venues staff should be consulted when installing electrical pieces.

Additional Details

EFTPOS is not currently available in the Gallery but there is an ATM on the ground floor of the building. This is a very popular exhibition space, so you will need to book well in advance. Only quality handmade products may be sold, and a New Zealand theme is preferred.
