Hillary Institute

The Hillary Institute honours the extraordinary leadership of New Zealand's most revered international citizen, the late Sir Edmund Hillary. Its mission is to invest in exceptional mid-career Leadership globally. The Institute's international board (The Hillary Summit - across 4 continents, chaired by David Caygill), selects one topic area every four years (2008-12 - Leadership in Climate Change Solutions), and one annual Hillary Laureate. In year four the Hillary Step (USD100,000) is awarded to one of the three annual Laureates. The Institute convenes one invite-only cross-sectoral annual symposium in its home New Zealand (led by the Hillary Laureate, and web-cast globally), and one event in the home city of the current Laureate.

The 2010 Hillary Laureate is China's Petty Liu, Chairperson of JUCCCE (Joint US China Collaboration on Clean Energy). The Insitute's Executive Director is Mark Prain (NZ) and Senior Fellow, Matt Petersen (LA).
