University Theatre

The University Theatre is used as a teaching and performance space by the University of Canterbury's Theatre and Film Department. It is also home to the Free Theatre a daring, innovative, physical theatre company, established in 1979 in the University Theatre (then called the Free Theatre). The Free Theatre has in recent times received a number of awards and most recently a nomination for Most Original Theatre in the Chapman Tripp National Theatre Awards.
