The Gallery Features
The English Gothic interior features polished timber flooring. The walls are painted in a clean light cream colour with a bright tamarillo red as a feature around the storeroom walls. Beams and arched braces support the high ceiling with pointed arched windows providing ample natural light into the Gallery.
Gallery Dimensions
The dimensions of the gallery are 13m by 9.5m. A floor plan can be provided if it is not attached to this information.
Gallery Lighting
The Gallery is equipped with lights that will provide a good wall wash. The lighting is on three separate switches and is able to be dimmed fully.
Exhibition Length
Gallery O is available for hire from Tuesday to Monday with the option of one or two weeks.
Hire Charges & Commission
No commission is taken on pieces sold. Hire fee is $300.00 plus gst per week.
Opening hours
As Gallery O is in a retail building it is to be open each day from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
Staffing
Gallery O will not be staffed, exhibitors will need to make their own arrangements should the exhibition need to be staffed. Casual staff may be available at an extra charge for openings or breaks. This would need to be arranged with Arts Centre Venues before the exhibition.
Pack-in and Pack-out Times
Exhibitions can begin pack in and hanging between 7.00pm and 10.00pm on the Monday prior to your exhibition or from 8.30am on Tuesday. Pack out is to be complete by Monday 7.00pm.
Access to Gallery / Key
On arrival for pack-in a key to the Gallery will be issued which may be kept for the duration of the exhibition. The key must be returned by 7.00pm on the Monday exhibitors are packing out. If the Venues office is unattended the key may be placed in the ‘drop box’ on the door. The loss or failure to return the key will incur the charges necessary for replacement locks and keys.
As Gallery O has a fire egress through it the doors have magnetic locks. In the event of the fire alarm being triggered the doors will automatically unlock.
Hanging
Exhibitors are to hang their own work. Nothing is to be adhered to any surfaces. Only Blue Tac may be used. No tape, stickers or tacks are permitted. A picture rail runs right around the gallery, it is at a height of 2.44m from the floor. Exhibits must be hung from the railings using the picture hooks supplied.
Labelling
A numbering system is available for exhibitors pieces with ‘sold’ dots included. Exhibitors need to supply their own catalogue or price labels. The Arts Centre can produce catalogues at a small charge. All catalogues produced by exhibitors are to be proofread by The Arts Centre before being printed.
Equipment Available with Gallery
Approximately 40 picture hooks, two chairs, a table, screens and a variety of plinths are available for use if required.

Quality of Work
All potential exhibitors must forward a photo or example of each type (not each piece) of work that will be exhibited before they are offered a space. It is helpful to include information on the theme, technique, materials, and the approximate number of pieces to be exhibited.
Insurance
Exhibitors are to arrange their own insurance for all pieces they are exhibiting.
Publicity, Outside Sandwich Boards & Posters
The Arts Centre can help publicise exhibitions via the display of posters and flyers. If exhibitors wish to produce their own posters Arts Centre Venues must first proofread the posters before they are printed. Alternatively The Arts Centre can help exhibitors produce posters and flyers. Suitable poster sizes are A4 or A3 portrait posters. It is recommended that six posters be provided for The Arts Centre Information staff to place in the notice boards around The Arts Centre. An additional poster should be kept to hang in the Gallery entrance for the duration of the exhibition.
Sandwich boards are not allowed at The Arts Centre.
If exhibitors complete The Arts Centre “Event Listing Form” the exhibition details will be included in The Arts Centre’s database. Please read the form for more detailed information.
It is strongly recommended that exhibitors also do their own publicity. This may include, but is not limited to, placing posters and flyers in public places like the libraries and community notice boards.
Openings
Exhibitors are welcome to hold an opening evening and supply their own food and alcohol. This is the exhibitors’ responsibility to arrange, however Arts Centre Venues should be notified of the time and date of the opening.
If alcohol is provided free of charge to guests a liquor licence is not required. However if alcohol is sold a special licence is required. The licence may be obtained from the Christchurch City Council and a copy must be displayed on the evening at the Gallery, and a copy given to Arts Centre Venues prior to the event. Please note the Council may take some time in processing the application so advance planning is required.
Capacity of Gallery
The maximum legal capacity of the Gallery is 75 people. This must not be exceeded at any time.
Exhibitions Involving Electricity
All electrical pieces for sale must have a current certificate of electrical safety from a registered electrician. Overloading and blowing of fuses may result in additional charges so Arts Centre Venues staff should be consulted when installing electrical pieces.
Additional Details
EFTPOS is not currently available in the Gallery but there is an ATM on the ground floor of the building.
