Located in the heart of Christchurch, the Arts Centre takes up an entire city block that is bounded by Worcester Boulevard, Montreal Street, Hereford Street and Rolleston Avenue. This means it is nestled among key city attractions including the Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum and Christchurch Art Gallery.
Driving & Parking
The Arts Centre has a limited number of 10 and 60 minute visitor carparks located at Market Square near the corner of Worcester Boulevard and Montreal Street.
Plenty of on-street metered parking is available near the Arts Centre.
- Bus – a number of bus stops are located within easy walking distance of the Arts Centre. Plan your bus trip by visiting MetroInfo.
- Tram – the tram has two stops right outside the Arts Centre and is a great sightseeing option through the recovering central city.
Cycling is a great option for getting to the Arts Centre, with plenty of family-friendly routes leading right to the site.
A cycle rack is located near the Canterbury Cheesemongers in Market Square, along with shared bikes that are available for hire. Cycle racks are also located outside of Canterbury Museum on Rolleston Avenue which is just across the road from the Great Hall and Rutherford’s Den.
The Arts Centre will connect to a number of the 13 major cycleways being constructed in Christchurch over the coming years.
The cycleways will make it safer and more convenient for cyclists to travel to the Arts Centre from suburbs, business and shopping zones as well as popular recreational areas.
World-class facilities currently being developed nearby include the Metro Sports Facility and Convention Centre that will collectively position central Christchurch as a premier option for sporting and other events, business and conferences. The new Bus Interchange is within walking distance, while the Arts Centre is also close to the developing Justice and Emergency Services, and Health precincts.
