The Arts Centre Living History Project
Introduction At our inaugural open day in 2004 many past students entertained staff with stories from their time attending Canterbury University when it was at this site. This created the germ for the idea of collecting stories from past students and lecturers before they are lost forever.
Project Definition To collect stories from past University of Canterbury students and lecturers recounting an experience or experiences while at the town campus with the purpose of creating a permanent record of these stories to be used in future publications and recordings.
Project Consultant Halina Ogonowska-Coates
Brief Past students and lecturers of the University of Canterbury are invited to email their recollection of an experience while at the university’s town campus. The recollection needs to be of a specific incident that happened on the site and should
- Include the location of the incident, for example, which building.
- Be no more than 1500 words
We would be interested to hear from anyone who can recall the first TV broadcast in New Zealand in 1952 or the fire in the Little Theatre in 1953.
Stories may be edited.
Stories should be emailed to livinghistory@artscentre.org.nz
