Houstoun: Bach’s 48

28 & 29 October, 2pm - The Great Hall

The Great Hall’s incredible acoustics will be brought to life by New Zealand concert pianist Michael Houstoun when he plays Bach’s famous 48 Prelude and Fugues.

He will perform the highly technical and beautiful pieces in two separate concerts, with Book One on Saturday 28 October and Book Two on  Sunday 29 October.

Born in Timaru, Michael began piano lessons with a nun at the age of five and went on to become one of New Zealand’s most established concert pianists.

The award-winning pianist has studied and performed around the world, boasting a large repertoire that stretches from JS Bach to the present day, including 40 concertos and chamber music.

A strong advocate of New Zealand music, Michael is also a big Beethoven fan. During the 1990s he played Beethoven’s complete sonatas in five cycles around New Zealand and Australia.

The Arts Centre has a limited number of 10 and 60 minute visitor carparks located at Market Square near the corner of Worcester Boulevard and Montreal Street.
