Viewpoint/Tirohanga – The Shoebox Collection

14 - 27 October 2019 - Pūmanawa

A free public exhibition of 23 stunning black and white architectural photographs from Christchurch in the 1960s and 1970s.

A forgotten shoe box of black and white negatives was discovered by Heritage New Zealand – a selection of negatives gifted to Peter Beaven featuring various gems of Christchurch’s Modern architecture during the 1960s and 1970s. The negatives were printed and readied for display at COCA in 2011 – until the earthquakes struck and they were archived.

Heritage New Zealand and the Arts Centre bring this free exhibition of high-resolution photographs featuring amazing mid-century architectural gems, most of which are gone from the Christchurch landscape. How many buildings will you remember?
