A quiet place of contemplation

18 March 2019

In the wake of the terrorist attacks upon Christchurch’s Muslim community, the Great Hall at the Arts Centre te Matatiki Toi Ora is open to the public as a quiet place of retreat and contemplation.

The hall, which is across the road from the Rolleston Ave flower wall memorial, is a heritage space made of native timbers and featuring a large stained-glass Memorial Window that depicts the service of humanity by action and thought.

The Great Hall is set up with flowers, candles and chairs facing the window and people are invited to stay as long as they like between the hours of 10.00am and 5.00pm.
