Getting here

Located in the heart of Christchurch, the Arts Centre, Te Matatiki Toi Ora, takes up an entire city block that is bounded by Worcester Boulevard, Montreal Street, Hereford Street and Rolleston Avenue. This means it is nestled among key city attractions including the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum and Christchurch Art Gallery.

Driving and parking

The Arts Centre has a limited number of 10- and 30-minute visitor car parks located at Market Square near the corner of Worcester Boulevard and Montreal Street.

Plenty of on-street metered parking is available near the Arts Centre.

There are also a number of Christchurch City Council and privately owned off-street car parks.

Public transport

  • Bus – a number of bus stops are located within easy walking distance of the Arts Centre. Plan your bus trip by visiting MetroInfo.
  • Tram – the tram has two stops right outside the Arts Centre and is a great sightseeing option through the central city.

Cycling

Cycling is a great option for getting to the Arts Centre, with plenty of family-friendly routes leading right to the centre.

Cycle racks are located out the front of the Boys’ High building and on the fence line by the white marquee in Market Square. Racks are also located outside of Canterbury Museum on Rolleston Avenue, which is just across the road from the Great Hall and Rutherford’s Den.

The Arts Centre will connect to a number of the 13 major cycleways being constructed in Christchurch over the coming years. The cycleways will make it safer and more convenient for cyclists to travel to the Arts Centre from the suburbs, business and shopping zones, as well as popular recreational areas.
