Matariki Night Markets

July 6-7 - The Gym, Canopy, Great Hall & North Quad

Haere mai / welcome,
Please join the community at the Arts Centre in our inaugural celebration of Matariki.

Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. The cluster rises in mid-winter and heralds the start of a new year. The stars represent a time of seasonal change, the opportunity to reflect over the passing year, prepare ground for new growth and is a time for the community to celebrate.

The Arts Centre invites you to come together as a community / whānau to celebrate Matariki 2018 with a variety of activities at the Arts Centre from June 15 – July 22.

In particular we are for the first time holding Matariki Night Markets on July 6 and 7 from 4-10pm.

The Matariki Night Markets will include:

  • Kapa Haka performances and NZ music from singer songwriters
  • Traditional kai and New Zealand favourites such as Fish and Chips and Pavlova
  • Art, crafts, jewellery all with a New Zealand feel/twist

Keep an eye out for our festival guide with Te Reo kupu and phrases.
