This 3-hour workshop is aimed at 12-16 year olds who are interested in new ways to create stories and to the enhance the ones they already have. We focus on the connection between mind and body as we keep this workshop active and moving, unlocking the potential for spontaneous stories to be told.
Combing aspects of improv, clown, and stand-up we will touch on character creation, descriptive narration, and devising on the spot.
At the heart of these age appropriate workshops is story structure. We break down in simplest terms what is needed for a good story.
This is an active and dynamic workshop which combines theatre games and narrative techniques from improvisation. We create a safe space that allows inspiration to guide the story. How can we access simple creativity that will aid not only in story creation, but in our day to day interactions? Each of us are storytellers. Through age appropriate pair and/or group work we explore collaborative storytelling. What can we create together, in the moment?
Who are your teachers? Based in Christchurch since 2012. Derek and Michi Flores have team-taught improv, comedy and connection for 10+ years, all over the world. Derek has a long career as a comedian and improviser and Michi has a background in sketch comedy, clown, stand-up and theatre making.
They use their combined skills and experience to facilitate the joy of play, spontaneity, storytelling.
