Harmony in Strings: Emotion & Melody

Experience a captivating evening of East-meets-West chamber music with the 27 Strings Ensemble, a Christchurch-based trio blending the expressive sounds of violin, guzheng, and erhu. Founded in 2015, this unique group explores the vibrant dialogue between traditional Chinese melodies and contemporary musical forms.

Led by internationally acclaimed violinist and arranger Tina Tang, with guzheng virtuoso Michelle Gong and erhu artist Vicky Hamilton, the ensemble brings to life iconic works such as Fisherman Singing at Dusk, Bosom Friends, Galloping on the Boundless Prairie, and Songs of Tianshan Mountain. From lyrical solos to powerful trios, each piece invites you into landscapes of memory, love, and nature through strings that sing with soul.

This concert features original arrangements and beloved classics drawn from Chinese folk traditions, ancient poetry, and operatic styles—performed with technical brilliance and emotional depth.

Join us for an evening where tradition meets innovation, and where…
