Hawwa Retrospective
Tuesday 17 - Sunday 29 March 2026
Time
10.00AM – 4.00PM
Venue: Pūmanawa
Free
This exhibition shows expressions of childhood memories, Hawwa's love of the natural environment and family life.
All paintings are oil on canvas except for two, which are in acrylic.
The colours and drawings on the ceramic pieces were inspired by my love of line, triangle, spaces and colour. Most of them are hand-built.
Artist's Biography
Hawwa Moore grew up in the Maldives and arrived in New Zealand in 1968 for her studies. She graduated with a biological science degree majoring in zoology from Otago University in 1973. Hawwa started painting in her 30s as a stay-at-home mother. Since then, she has been an exhibiting member of Christchurch Society of Arts, gained a Diploma in Studio Arts, and later a degree in Art History from Canterbury University.
Hawwa's paintings were exhibited in three solo exhibitions, and her ceramics with the Canterbury Potters Association between 2002 and 2016.
