Hungarian Folkdance - A Swirl of Hungarian

Saturday 29 November 2025

Time

1.00PM – 2.00PM

Venue: Canopy outside Altiora

Hungarian folk dance – the costumes, the colour, the music – turning, spinning, stamping, right here in Christchurch.

A group of young dancers (aged 11–18) from Melbourne’s Magyar Kultúr Kör (Culture Club of United Hungarians) will be performing at The Arts Centre on in front of Altiora, the Gym, by Market Square.

Melbourne’s large Hungarian community welcomes teachers from the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Program, based in Hungary, each year to help maintain their culture at its source. These young people, although born in Australia, are able to act as cultural ambassadors to both the Hungarian diaspora and the wider public.
