Tirama Mai

Tīrama Mai is a celebration of Puaka Matariki, produced by Christchurch City Council, that brings together creative installations and projections, performances and storytelling.

Tīrama Mai 2025 will feature new work and a few familiar crowd-pleasers. The event will span Te Puna o Waiwhetū Christchurch Art Gallery and The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora, but works will also be positioned along Worcester Boulevard, and at Riverside Market.

Tīrama Mai has an opening night preview on Wednesday 18 June at 4.30 - 9.30pm and then runs Thursday 19 until Sunday 22 June, from 2.30 – 9.30pm. It is free to attend.

Tīrama Mai is an awesome opportunity to learn and engage in Puaka Matariki and Māori creation stories. This year three Ngāi Tahu artists’ feature. At the Great Hall we celebrate the vibrant work of artist Xoë Hall, while in the North Quad Alix Ashworth scales up her colourful sculptures. At the Christchurch Art Gallery musician Kommi and friends bring the story of Hine-a-Tauira to life. Music, short films and more will play at the Philip Carter Auditorium, with storytelling and live performances in the warmth of the Gallery Foyer.
