Creative Residency Programme
Our creative residency programme supports artists practising in a range of artforms to create new work, build connections with each other, and engage with our local arts communities and audiences across a set residency period. Artists can explore possibilities for artistic collaboration during and after the residency if they wish.
Applications for the 2024 programme have closed. Keep an eye on this page for future calls for applications. The programme is funding dependent.
The programme requires artists to make a formal application. Applications are open to artists that are Aotearoa New Zealand citizens or permanent residents only.
Residents become part of a small onsite community accommodated within communal living quarters.
Public events are expected to be presented by residents, and it’s expected that artists will research or develop new work during the residency. If work is completed, then this can be presented at the end of the residency or at a later date.
What will Te Matatiki Toi Ora provide?
For each artist, we will provide:
- a stipend
- travel costs to and from Ōtautahi if required

- studio or rehearsal space on site or nearby if required and if possible
- access to Wi-Fi
- links, contacts, and advice in relation to local arts communities
- advice and support with orientation, realising projects onsite, and delivery of public programmes from a Project Administrator
