Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre has reinstated the tradition of open artists’ studios, where the public can watch artists at work. The open studios were a popular feature of The Arts Centre before the Canterbury earthquakes.

KidsFest: Heritage Stargazing at the Observatory Tower 2026

Tues 7 and Wed 15 July 2026

Experience stargazing from the Observatory Tower (1896) at The Arts Centre. Join us for a short 30-minute kid-friendly experience to view the Southern Sky through the Victorian-era Townsend Teece Telescope, under the guidance of Townsend astronomers from the University of Canterbury.
