Faust On Trial is back! Witness the sell-out endurance theatre work.

Each night, the audience will vote for one actor to remain on stage in a cage until the next performance, when the whole thing starts again.

Five hundred years ago, Doctor Faustus sold his soul to the devil. Now, in the 21st century, Faust is in Hell. He wants to get out. In this radical reimagining of the theatrical classic, Doctor Faustus summons a courtroom, ruled by Helen of Troy, to renegotiate his deal with the devil. Faust wants his soul back. Mephistopheles wants to keep it. And who knows what Helen wants?

For some audience members, it’s theatre, for others, a cage fight, to others still a miscarriage of justice, a reality TV show, a conjuring, a battle, a work of performance art, a spell, an ordeal, a ritual, an hour outside reality. Only one thing is certain: for everyone, it’s a trial.

The trial takes us from biblical Hell to Gaza in the 21st century, Early Modern England to the reality-TV-chaos of The Bachelorette, and from Rarohenga to the end of the world....

Faust On Trial was originally created as part of the HTS Six-Month Theatre Creation Course.
