Te raranga o tōku ao

Te raranga o tōku ao brings together an exhibition of raranga and sculptural works by Lily Williams, tracing a journey of reconnection, reclamation and mana motuhake.

Coming to raranga in adulthood opened a deeper relationship with te ao Māori. From harvesting and preparing harakeke to weaving alongside others, Lily’s practice is grounded in whakapapa, kaitiakitanga and the relationships formed through learning and making.

Across the exhibition, raranga meets Lily’s established creative practice with hair. Pattern, tension, texture, colour and form move between the works, creating space for experimentation and for different parts of her creative world to come together.
