Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Whare Tapere for a special session that continues the creative journey begun by visiting artist Heather Shillinglaw of Cold Lake First Nations, Canada.

In July, Heather led Wâpikwaniy – Wild Rose Pin Wānanga at Te Whare Tapere, where she introduced participants to her artistic practice of felting, stitching and beading through the creation of a handcrafted wâpikwaniy (wild rose) pin.

Following the wānanga, Heather generously gifted a number of felting packs to Te Whare Tapere as a lasting gift to our community, allowing the creativity, connection and learning experienced during her visit to continue beyond her time with us. We are deeply grateful for Heather's generosity and for the opportunity to continue celebrating her artistic practice through this session.

While Heather is not facilitating this wānanga, participants will begin by learning about her artwork and artistic practice, and the wâpikwaniy (wild rose) project she shared with our community. Participants will then create their own handcrafted wâpikwaniy (wild rose) pin

Working through the same step-by-step making process introduced by Heather, participants will learn felting and beading techniques while creating a beautiful keepsake to take home.

    All materials provided.

This wānanga is open to anyone aged 13 years and over.

Places are limited, and bookings are essential.

This wānanga is offered with gratitude to Heather Shillinglaw for her generosity and for sharing her creativity with Te Whare Tapere and our wider community. We look forward to welcoming participants to continue this creative journey together.
